Hand-crafted and hands on – that’s how we see 2012 Season One at Arts House, and we invite you to get entangled!

An ever-expanding web of artistic threads winds its way through summer and autumn, creating unexpected crossovers and mapping out risky and colourful territories. Performance experiences unwind from all directions and dimensions – from sublime dances to knee-bustling junkyard theatre, from intimate live-art exchange to intriguing installations.

As well as our core program of local, national and international performance, we’re excited to have Next Wave in residence at Arts House in May, with a basketful of fantastic shows from young and emerging creators. We’re also hosting CultureLAB and other residencies, creating new artistic connections within and across our community of makers and audiences.

Be sure to check out our Warehouse Salon soirées in the brand new Warehouse space. And don’t miss the flame-jumpin’ winter Solstice, the return of our 180 Seconds series, where artists – some from our CultureLAB, Warehouse and other programs – stand and deliver three-minute performances in a night of bespoke and unexpected wonder.

Season One is woven by many hands rather than curated to a single vision. Some work is selected by the Arts House Advisory Panel from a wide range of artists applying for the Arts House presentation grants, other work is selected and supported by Arts House’s own programming funds. The season is developed through creative partnerships with artists, arts companies, independent arts producers, international arts councils, festivals, and other venues across Australia. This process generates a program of vibrant energy and an eclecticism that is both a symptom and a celebration of the passion and pragmatism that is the DNA of contemporary work in Australia.

None of what we do could happen without a huge commitment from all our artists and collaborators, whose goal is to place their work in front of an adventurous and curious audience – that’s you.

We want to take you to the unique and myriad junctions of local and international currents; of cultural exploration and art form experiment. The threads? Our dreams and desires, our heroes and friends, our skills and ingenuity, our familiar places and the paths to new worlds.
