Volunteer Assistant Producers for Festival of Live Art 2018

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Festival of Live Art 2018 is the third festival presented by a consortium of Arts House, Theatre Works and Footscray Community Arts Centre and encompasses performance, installation, durational works, offsite work, talks, parties and events across all three organisations.

Arts House will centre its Festival of Live Arts programme at the North Melbourne Town Hall as well as a handful of other sites over 10 nights. The Volunteer Assistant Producers will work across roughly 22 works and events as part of Arts House’s Festival of Live Arts programme.

Volunteer Assistant Producers will assist with managing patrons’ experience of the Festival of Live Art at Arts House and will have a key role in supporting the realisation, presentation and invigilation of artworks in liaison with Arts House Producers and Front of House staff.

Nine Volunteer Assistant Producers will be appointed across 4 broad practice areas:

Installations (x2 volunteers)

Performances (x2 volunteers)

Offsite Events (x3 volunteers)

Evening Events (x2 volunteers)

Volunteer Assistant Producers will not replace the work of Front of House staff or Producers but will assist and advise both roles.

AVAILABILITY

All Volunteers must attend an induction, rehearsal and the first night of the Festival of Live Art at Arts House.

6-8pm, Thursday 1 March: Induction and Briefing

6-8pm, Tuesday 13 March: Preview/artist meet and greet

4-10:30pm, Wednesday 14 March: First Night

And then, in tandem with their partner Volunteer Producer, take-up individual shifts between:

Thursday 15 – Friday 16 March and Wednesday 21 – Friday 23 March, 4pm – 10:30pm

Saturday 17 – Sunday 18 March and Saturday 24 – Sunday 25 March, 11:30am-6:30pm or 12:00pm-3:30pm or 6pm-12:30am

WHAT ARTS HOUSE OFFERS

Each pair of Volunteer Assistant Producers will be attached to an Arts House mentor who will offer advice, guidance and mentorship throughout the Festival of Live Art. In addition, Volunteer Assistant Producers will receive:

An individual reference letter outlining their role and performance as a Volunteer Assistant Producer at Arts House, Festival of Live Art

A Festival of Live Art T-Shirt

Free tickets to Arts House, Festival of Live Art events, talks and parties

Acknowledgement and credit in the Arts House Festival of Live Arts billing

Networking opportunities to meet other emerging producers and peers

Where available, to meet and hear from individual artists within their practice area about Festival of Live Art works.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Volunteers will be supervised and instructed by a City of Melbourne employee on their duties.

As part of the engagement, City of Melbourne will pay for Volunteers to undergo a Police Check and a Working with Children Check. Volunteers will be required to supply a passport photo at their own expense.

Arts House will recruit Volunteer Assistant Producers from an open call out and will hold interviews by phone or in person in early January 2018.
