Join radio producers and presenters Areej Nur and Samira Farah to unpack the process of curation and the often inaccessible structures in programming within Melbourne artistic institutions. Taking its title from a Toni Morrison essay, this Makeshift Gathering will build conversations around the act of ‘taking over’ institutions and the ways in which art collectives can democratise artistic collaboration. In the lead up, participants are invited to gather small objects from around their neighbourhood to focus on how they could present their own narrative in a space they currently find inaccessible. Or why not dream up the perfect program for an Australian festival you believe needs radical experimentation.

This Makeshift Gathering includes a free, light dinner.

About the speakers
Areej Nur (VIC) and Samira Farah (NSW) are co-founders of Still Nomads, an African artist collective. Areej and Samira’s work is driven by their interest in collaborative community programming and the ways in which art collectives and community radio allow people to take ownership of their own narratives.
