a bit thing invites you to step inside a fantastical Blak family home – a space where art, pop-culture and Koorie culture are inseparable from everyday life. Stay awhile to experience the artworks and explore the public programs below.

Saturday 27 June 

Opening Event with Curators Talk & Tour

2pm – 4pm

Celebrate the opening of a bit thing and join curators Dr Paola Balla, Rosie Kalina and Katen Balla as they speak to the artworks and expand on the contextual framework of the exhibition.

Saturday 4 July

Workshop: Painting with Paola

12pm – 2pm

Come along to a gently guided painting session with Dr. Paola Balla, where she invites you to respond to a bit thing in little painting form. Materials and afternoon tea will be provided, and you’ll be able to take your artwork home.

Friday 10 July

Blakyard Feed, Yarns & Koorioke 

6pm – 9pm 

Join us in the Blakyard for chill family night, where we’ll be yarning about Blak Media and Film, local legends and the importance of archiving. Come along for a feed, hear a yarn and stick around for some Koorioke!

Saturday 11 July 

Audio Described Tactile Tour

11am – 12:15pm 

Join an audio-described and tactile tour of a bit thing exhibition, followed by Yarns & Damper with Aunty Margie Tang (optional). Whilst this tour has been designed with blind and low-vision patrons in mind, it is open to all community members who may benefit. Bookings are essential.

Yarns & Damper with Aunty Margie Tang 

12:30pm – 2.30pm

Aunty Margie Tang invites you over for an afternoon cuppa and freshly baked damper, as she shares stories and lore passed down through generations.

Never one to be defined by a single craft or practice, Wemba Wemba and Gunditjmara Elder Aunty Margie has worked as a chef, standup comic, actor, writer, masseuse, visual artist, weaver, and more. Come along, the kettle’s on.
