Blak Women’s Healing Public Program

Blak Women’s Healing is a whole-building takeover of Arts House, amplifying the voices and lived experiences of Aboriginal women and transforming the venue into a powerful space of resistance, healing, and cultural sovereignty. Explore the program below.

Saturday 26 April 

Community Research Projects in Action: A Roundtable Conversation with Moondani Balluk Creative Research Collective 

A conversation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous researchers reflecting on critical participatory action research and the ongoing work of the Blak Women’s Healing Program.

Saturday 3 May 

Curator Talk and Tour 

Join Dr Paola Balla for a Curator-led tour of the exhibition, as she speaks to the artworks and expands on the contextual framework of Blak Women’s Healing.  

11am – 12pm

Yarning & Weaving with Aunty Margie 

Join Aunty Margie Tang for a cuppa and a yarn as she shares her weaving techniques in a relaxed afternoon weaving session.

Saturday 10 May 

Bush-dyeing Workshop with Paola 

Learn about the method and process of bush-dyeing as a cultural and artistic practice in a workshop led by Blak Women’s Healing Curator, Dr. Paola Balla. Participants are welcome to bring a piece of white clothing or fabric that they would like to dye. Please wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes.

Blak Women’s Yarning Circle 

A space for women from the Blak Women’s Healing project to come together and yarn, sharing stories of resistance and healing and celebrating the strength of matriarchs. Facilitated by Dr Paola Balla, with afternoon tea provided.
